Introduction of the QueenKaufman Theatre - Chrysler Museum of Art Friday, February 20 at 5:30PM Cost: FREE and Open to the Public* Sponsored by Metro Machine A wine and cheese reception will follow the introduction of the year's Queen Azalea, Captain Magdalena Dvorakova. Enjoy a short orchestra performance by the Govenor's School for the Arts. Hampton & Newport News Rooms - Webb Center, Old Dominion University Monday, April 6 from 8AM-2PM Cost: FREE and Open to the Public Local Norfolk High School students and college freshman are chosen though an essay contest to serve as Student Diplomats in the Model NATO Challenge. Watch as the 2009 Student Diplomats each represent on of the 26 NATO member nation's interests in a spirited debate modeled after real NATO problem solfing techniques. Exhibition of World War II International Military Posters Baron and Ellin Gordon Folk Art Galleries - Old Dominion University Friday, April 17th - May 5th Preview the International WWII Military Poster Exhibit before it is displayed at the Czech Republic Embassy in Washington D.C. Display will be at the Folk Art Gallery from April 17th- May 5th. NATO Golf ClassicSewell's Point Golf Course Thursday, April 2310:30 Registration, 11 Lunch, 12 Cost: $100/individual, $320/team of four Sewell's Point Golf Course is open to the public who are participating in the tournament. Golf alongside the NATO Headquarters military officers and staff coupled with local golfers who just love the game. Fee includes cart, greens fees, giveaways, lunch, dinner and prizes! Saturday, April 25 at 12-noon Sponsored by the Norfolk Naval Sailing Association and the Norfolk Naval Sailing Center. The race will use government marks in the Southern Bay area, offering two fleets in each of spinnaker, non-spinnaker/single head sail and cruising classes. Registration closes on 22 Apri. The Skippers Meeting is at 6PM on 24 April at Baxter Sail Makers on Willoughby Spit in Norfolk , and race/awards banquet is at 6PM 25 April at the Joint Forces Staff College Pub #l. With musical accompaniment by the US Atlantic Fleet Band and a military band from the Czech Republic, the Opening Ceremony is a breathtaking experience you don't want to miss.
Student Forum L. Douglas Wilder Center - Norfolk State University Wednesday, April 29 from 9AM-12 Noon Cost: FREE and Open to the Public With guidance provided by Staff Officers from NATO Headquarters, Norfolk High School students will perform skits that demonstrate what the events that occurred in Prague in the Spring of 1968 tell us about the future role of NATO in this annual competition. The Queen's court representing all 26 NATO member nations will be presented to you prior to the start of the Fashion Show Luncheon. Azalea Night at The Virginia International TattooFriday, May 1 at 7:30PMCost: $20, $35, $45, $50, $100 (visit vafest.org to purchase tickets) This is the largest Tattoo in the United States, presented with all the grandeur and splendor of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Pageantry and patriotism, spirit and spectacle, talent and teamwork, precision personified. Over 850 performers from around the world will join forces, filling the Scope with music, majesty and might. The Tattoo is action packed and offers a special Friday evening tribute to the Czech Republic, the Azalea Festival's Most Honored Nation, and the region's Armed Forces. Annual Parade of NationsSaturday, May 2 at 10:30AM Cost: FREE and Open to the Public A fabulous parade of bands, floats, and marching units will represent all member NATO nations in this annual parade. The Princess and Student Diplomat of each NATO nation will ride their countries float followed by Queen Azalea, Captain Magdalena Dvorakova . The Parade starts at Water Street and continues onto Waterside Drive with a right turn onto Plume Street and a left onto Granby Street. The parade ends at the corner of Granby Street and Freemason Street. Click here for map of route. The Czech National Theatre Ballet and Queen's International Ball Harrison Opera House and Half Moone Cruise Center Saturday, May 2 at 7:30PM and 9:30PM Cost: $125 / $100 Military Rate Experience Czech Republic’s National Theatre Ballet, one of the largest and most interesting companies in Europe. Led by Petr Zuska, leading Czech choreographer and dancer, the 65 member ballet company will amaze you by combining both classical and contemporary genres while infusing works by noted international choreographers. Tickets will be sold as a package and transportation to and from the Cruise Center to the Opera House will be provided.
NATOFest Scope Plaza (Plaza in front of Chrysler Hall and the Norfolk Scope) Sunday, May 3 from 12 Noon-3PM Cost: FREE and Open to the Public "Explore 28 Countries in a Day." Food, culture and entertainment are just a few of the specials in store for you at NATOFest 2009.
